Swimming – Overview

Swimming is a popular aquatic sport where individuals move through water by using their arms and legs in a coordinated motion. It’s both a recreational activity and a competitive sport, with various strokes like freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly.

Swimmers can compete individually or as part of relay teams across different distances. Swimming offers numerous health benefits, including cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and endurance. It’s governed internationally by organizations like FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation), where the swimming headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is practiced in pools, open water, and even in events like triathlons.

National swimming federations in each country are responsible for organizing domestic competitions, implementing safety regulations, and developing swimming programs at the grassroots level.
