Basketball – Overview

Basketball is a team sport played on a rectangular court, where two teams try to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop.

Each team aims to outscore the other by shooting the ball into the opponent’s basket while preventing them from doing the same. It involves dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Basketball is primarily organized by several governing bodies, including the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for international competitions, the National Basketball Association (NBA) for professional basketball in North America, and various other leagues and federations at national and regional levels around the world.

The headquarters of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is located in Mies, Switzerland.

Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani will serve as FIBA President for the current term of 2023 to 2027.
